“National Human Rights Strategy has been developed by the working group consisting of representatives from public structures, national expert community, civil society and international organizations. Now, after it has been signed, we have to develop a National Action plan – a large document, based on international standards, which has to be successful and able to answer all generally national questions”, - stated Natalia Sevostianova, First Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine.
She said that by the end of October, the Ministry of Justice plans to have a draft of the Action plan, previously having it discussed and debated between government representatives and public sector and having all necessary matters resolved within working groups.
“We have formed a working group, consisting of 250 members. This group has been divided into 5 thematic subgroups according to strategic directions we are currently working on. We have an active civil society and we rely on its help in this matter”, - emphasized Natalia Sevostianova.
Members of the assessment mission emphasized during the meeting that the National Action plan is a very important document and it is best for Ukraine to focus on human resources, to give public the ability to obtain appropriate knowledge and protection of their rights.
Matters regarding the implementation of the Strategy have been also discussed during the meeting, including the implementation at the legislative level, protection of rights of national minorities, LGBT-communities, reform of the judiciary and law enforcement sector, anti-corruption reform, etc.
Parties emphasized the necessity to thoroughly test the Action plan in order for this document to become effective in protection of human rights sector in Ukraine.
